College of IT & Engineering (CITE)

In 1986, SWU started offering an associate in computer management program under the then College of Commerce. Responding to the increase in demand for IT professionals in the industry, SWU offered BSCS under a separate college which was named Institute of Computer Science. In 2001, with the addition of Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) and BS in Information Management (BSIM), the college was officially renamed College of Computer Studies. In 2015, when PHINMA Education acquired SWU, the engineering and IT degree programs were combined under one college, which was called College of IT and Engineering (CITE). In 2018, as it adapted to the changing demands of the market, the college decided to focus on offering just one degree program (BSIT) with a plan to offer new and improved engineering programs again in the future.
The BSIT program was redesigned as a non-traditional program, shifting from lecture-based to practice-based classes where students apply what they learn immediately in real-life situations.
We provide a diverse and rich learning environment with a mix of education, business, and meaningful multidisciplinary collaborations, allowing our students to expand their career aspirations. Our local and international industry partners provide internships and projects for our students to work on. These provide opportunities for our students to find work as soon as they are capable even if they have not graduated yet.
Our students are guided by practicing professionals and highly-respected industry mentors. This ensures the relevance and timeliness of the knowledge and skills that our students gain.
We develop and hone the technical, communication, collaboration, and leadership skills of our students, which they can use to help transform and improve the companies or organizations that they will be joining when they leave or finish our program.
SWU PHINMA’s College of IT and Engineering is a premier college in the country; producing highly skilled and globally competitive graduates who are the top choice of companies because of their strong ability to initiate positive changes via innovation and creation of relevant solutions and who are also capable of pioneering their own start-up ventures.
In line with SWU PHINMA’s mission of preparing students to become the best that they can be, CITE aims to produce versatile and globally competitive professionals that are productive (work-ready) even as undergraduates and are active advocates of positive change. With our practice-based approach to learning, we seek to produce graduates that are resourceful problem-solvers, innovative, creative, adaptive and responsive to changes and challenges in the field of IT and Engineering. We also train them to be effective communicators and equipped to lead and reach the pinnacles of their professions.
