Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy (BS OT)

The Occupational Therapy Program of SWU PHINMA College of Rehabilitative Sciences is committed to produce occupational therapists who can manage direct referrals, are adaptable to multicultural and multidisciplinary work settings, and are transformers of knowledge and skills in their profession.

This can be achieved through a hybrid, ladderized curricular program that is based on prudent independent and collaborative practice; critical use of current knowledge and technical skills; judicious application of his own scholarly works; and appropriate cultural competencies. This is delivered by foreign-trained and industry-immersed faculty who promote experiential and problem-based learning, and lifelong andragogy.

Program Expected Learning Outcomes

Synthesize and utilize knowledge of health, social, psycho-social, physical, natural and environmental sciences in screening patients for OT alone or referral.


Utilize occupational therapy foundations and concepts in assessment and intervention in various occupational practice settings and across lifespan within a broad continuum of care.


Demonstrate beginning research-related skills in the performance of various roles, to use in best OT practices for quality outcomes.


Utilize current research evidence in decision making as practitioner, educator or researcher.


Demonstrate proficiency in oral and written communication skills, for inter-professional education or to educate an individual client or population.


Recognize the need for, and engage in, lifelong learning activities, for personal or continuing professional development.


demonstrate social, professional responsibility and accountability; and high standards of OT ethical practice and behaviors in all settings and situations


engage actively in the advocacies of the OT profession and its stakeholders, to respond to the occupational needs of society.

OT work with children at risk for developing disabilities, improving their motor skills, cognitive skills and sensory processing to minimize the potential of developmental delays.

Productive Aging

OT help dementia patients through behavioral interventions (aka treatment plans), addressing personality changes that are concerning their families and caregivers.

Health and Wellness

OT helps people with arthritis, teaching them how to manage inflammation or identifying orthotic devices that help them control pain, which improves their self-esteem.

Mental Health

OTs teach individuals with Down syndrome how to gain their independence through self-care activities such as eating, dressing, and playing.

OT helps people overcome physical challenges, recommending mobility changes to everyday equipment such as adding foot straps to bicycle pedals.
