Studying public administration at the graduate level at Southwestern University introduces students to the business aspects of managing government programs, offices, and employees at every level. Classes cover a range of knowledge and skills from good governance, public finance, leadership, urban planning, policy making, economic development, environmental policy and other key areas in public administration. All of these experiences are also beneficial for those in the non-profit sector. The Master in Public Administration program is designed to provide theoretical and practical approaches in preparation for careers in public, private and non-profit organizations.

Program Expected Learning Outcomes

Utilize critical thinking and research methods relevant to public administration in a multi-cultural environment.


Analyze the impact of the different influences on the public, private and non-profit sector decision-making process.


Describe, analyze, and evaluate the various approaches to managing public, and private employees, as well as NGO volunteers.


Evaluate the effectiveness of public administration strategies for dealing with the community, and other local and national government agencies.


Evaluate the impact of public administration decisions on local and national development.
