Doctor of Dental Medicine (DDM)

The six-year program consisting of basic science, clinical science and dental public health courses aims to produce quality graduates and successful dental practitioners equipped with manual dexterity, technical dental skills and excellent interpersonal relationship in treating and managing their patients and ultimately become agents in painting the beautiful smiles to the community.

SWU Dentistry program will not only prepare the students for the basic dental services but, as well as, simple cases of cosmetic dental
procedures. Updates on the latest trends in cosmetic dentistry are also covered. Skills on setting-up and managing a dental clinic and marketing the dental services are also covered in the program.

SWU PHINMA Doctor of Dental Medicine program will be training the students to become successful private dental practitioners and become the best dentists.

Program Expected Learning Outcomes

The graduates shall have the ability to: Articulate and discuss the latest developments in the specific field of practice (PQF level 6 descriptor); Effectively communicate orally and in writing using both English and Filipino; Work effectively and independently in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams. (PQF Level 6 descriptor); Act in recognition of professional, social, and ethical responsibility; Preserve and promote “Filipino historical and cultural heritage” (based on RA 7772)


The graduates shall have the ability to: Demonstrate clinical competence in specific profession; Observe ethical conduct in the practice of the profession; Pursue inter-professional education; Communicate orally and in writing using both English and Filipino effectively; Engage in self-directed learning; Assume leadership and management role; Promote the use of systems approach in the delivery of healthcare; Participate in the conduct of researches; Act as an advocate/mobilizer


Dental education shall produce graduates who are globally competitive, and the ability to: Provide quality oral health care; Communicate effectively; Plan and deliver community and extension dental services; Engage in research activities; Apply business principles, entrepreneurship, practices and processes; Practice life-long learning and continue to be life-long learner; Practice ethical/legal/moral principles and social accountability; Demonstrate nationalism, internationalism and dedication to service; Utilize systems – based approach to healthcare; Collaborate with inter-professional teams


Common to a horizontal type as defined in CMO No. 46, s. 2012: For professional institutions: a service orientation in one’s profession; For colleges: an ability to participate in various types of employment, development activities, and public discourses particularly in response to the needs of the communities one serves; For universities: an ability to participate in the generation of new knowledge or in research and development projects. Graduates of State Universities and Colleges must, in addition, have the competencies to support “national, regional and local development projects.” (RA 7722)
