College of Pre-Medicine

Overview and Description

Southwestern University PHINMA’s College of Pre-Medicine offers two multi-faceted programs: a) Bachelor of Science in Psychology; and b) Bachelor of Science in Biology. Cutting across both offerings is the college’s strategic approach anchored on honing learners to become proficient and intellectually curious individuals ready to take on the demands of advanced medical and psychological practices. Alongside commendable dynamics in its teaching practices, the college progressively builds an atmosphere for active and collaborative learning essentially geared towards social relevance. Specifically, collegiate initiatives revolve around: 

  1. Implementing an industry-driven curriculum that serves as a platform of harnessing command in professional knowledge, skills, and values to heighten medical and psychological practice preparedness; 
  2. Developing active learners whose primary notion of learning revolves around a meaningful and self-driven approach in preparing themselves for the real-life practice; 
  3. Constructing dynamic faculty programs geared towards the maximization of the full learning facilitator potentials constituted by the aspects such as, but not limited to, becoming authority or subject matter experts and industry-immersed professionals; and 
  4. Collaborating with various institutional and societal sectors to holistically and contextually address student and faculty growth and development. 
Vision

SWU PHINMA’s College of Pre-Medicine sees skillful and dynamic program completers who are: a) proactively engaged on institutional and community undertakings relevant to the psychological and biomedical fields; and b) ethically-laden behaviour specialists and future medical doctors in the pursuit of implementing programs aimed at advancing the psychological and biomedical arena.

Mission

The college commits to: a) reconstruct relevant curricular contents jiving with the templates of the current trends and dynamics of the medical practice; b) participate in pro-active institutional and community engagements specifically assuming the biomedical approach on professional undertakings; c) create a competent learning atmosphere where skill-based and knowledge based competencies, backboned by ethical values, are in relevant and meaningful proportion; and d) expose students to an academic curriculum of industry-immersed nature in such that they are relevantly in constant engagement with partner industries in the clinical psychology and psychiatric profession.
